POLICE are trying to find this man in connection with stone thefts in Colne.

Officers from Colne and West Craven Police posted an appeal on their Facebook page trying to identify him and another man after nine York stone flags from the back of a property on Albert Road in Colne.

The man is believed to be about 30 years old and was seen driving a white van with red and yellow highway maintenance stickers on it.

Insp Kim De Curtis of Burnley Police said: "It does happen particularly in the Colne and Nelson areas.

"Whether it is happening because there is a lot of stone in that area I do not know.

"But the people doing it will be quite brazen as they will pull up in work gear and people will think it is to do with work on a site.

"Often they will come and have a look at the place then lift them up and stack them and they later return to take them.

"I would urge people to be vigilant as they will also come in the middle of the day and it has been happening like this in the past.

"The York stones are quite expensive and they can be sold on for their value."

The incident took place on September 21 at 8.01am.
