A mum from Barnoldswick has made running history in Portugal's Algarve.

Rachel Bowker completed the equivalent of five marathons across the country's southern coast, in just five days.

The 42-year-old, who lives in the Algarve with her partner, Marc Gomes, decided to take on the 133 mile challenge to raise cash for East Lancs cancer charity, Bosom Friends, after she lost her mum to ocular melanoma in 2016.

The route, known as the EcoVia, started at Europe’s most south-westerly point, Cape St. Vincent, and followed the coast to the Portuguese-Spanish border.

Miss Bowker crossed the finish line on Monday October 29.

So far she's raised nearly £2000 for Bosom Friends, with the money being put towards completing the final stage of a support centre which will provide comfort and holistic therapy to cancer sufferers and their families.
