BLACKBURN Cathedral will lead the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First Word War on Sunday.

Remembrance Day events at Lancashire's leading Anglican Church begin at 6am that morning with a lone piper playing 'Battle’s O’er'.

At 9.30am the Civic Service of Remembrance will begin with a sermon preached by the Bishop of Blackburn the Rt Rev Julian Henderson.

The Cathedral bells will ring from 12.30pm to 1.30pm to mark the signing of the Armistice ending the 1914/1918 conflict.

At 6.40pm a beacon will be lit before the bells ring again with those of other places of worship nationwide from 7.05pm until 8pm.
