THE year's final running of the steam engines at Barnoldswick's Bancroft Mill will be on Remembrance Day November 11.

Both the original 650 HP Roberts engine which powered the Gillians Lane mill from 1920 until it closed in 1978, and a 300HP Smith Bros and Eastwood engine, rescued 15 years ago from a mill at Bradley near Skipton, will be in operation.

The mill will open to the public at 10.45am with the engines running at intervals from 1pm to 3.45pm. An added attraction will be Sid Calderbank (Lancashire Sid) and his friends from the Lancashire Society to entertain with music and dialect poetry while the engines are not running.

Admission prices are: adults £6; concessions £5; family tickets for adults and up to four children £15; and children five and under are free.
