38 penalty notices issued for poor parking outside E Lancs schools

Traffic wardens have been sent to 59 schools in East Lancashire since the policy was brought in by Lancashire County Council at the beginning of September.

In nearly two months 38 penalty notices have been handed out to drivers for poor parking outside primary and secondary schools in East Lancashire.

The visits come following the launch of County Hall's new initiative to visit every school, with enforceable restrictions, at least once every academic year.

In Hyndburn, 14 schools have been visited and eight penalty notices issued. No schools have been visited in the Ribble Valley yet.

A total of nine schools have been visited in Burnley, with 10 PCNs issued. Schools in Pendle have received 26 visits so far, with 18 PCNs issued.

In Rossendale, 10 schools have been visited with just 2 PCNs issued.

Bosses at Lancashire County Council say the purpose of the policy is to deter poor parking rather than try to issue lots of penalties.

Normal weekly parking enforcement, of visiting schools at morning and afternoon drop off, has been held by Blackburn with Darwen Council has been held since 2004.

A total of 70 penalty notices have been issued to people parking outside schools following 107 visits to schools. The borough has 72 learning establishments.
