A CENTENARY of the armistice event is being held as a finale event in a four year long project to commemorate the First World War.

Colne Town Council is mounting its finale event under the Colne Commemorates banner, a free Exhibition at the Town Hall from Saturday November 10 to Sunday November 11 at 11.30am to 4.30pm.

Supported by the heritage lottery fund, the Colne Commemorates project started four years ago, and films of past events will be on display.

Exhibition Organiser, Eleanor Jolley said: "We are grateful to all the primary schools who have submitted research, exhibits and artwork. We offer our especial thanks to Park High School teacher, Mr Heath and his Year 8 History pupils, who are providing extra hands to help us both to stage and man this exhibition, which is spread across a suite of rooms in The Town Hall."

Cllr Sarah Cockburn Price, said: "Once again, we will be offering visitors the opportunity to step back in time in our magnificent, Victorian Town Hall. Not only will people be able to experience the grandeur of the architecture, but they will also be able to don period costume in the Mayor’s Parlour, which still boasts the original furniture that was recently discovered wrapped up in brown paper in the cellars."

Craft activities for children will also be available.
