AN appeal has been issued after a man was hit in the face with a metal bar in Chorley.

Police say the victim, aged 57, was walking along St Annes Road in the early hours of Saturday when he was attacked.

A red car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra, pulled up near the junction with Lyons Lane, and a man got out, hitting the man around the head twice.

Officers say he then got back into his car and drove off towards Lyons Lane.

The attack is said to have taken place between 12.10am and 12.15am and the victim suffered minor injuries.

PC Richard Lucas, of Chorley Police, said: "We are investigating an assault in Chorley.

!While the attack took place late in the early hours of the morning, we're hopeful someone has seen what happened.
