THE historic Gawthorpe Hall will be lit up to mark the day guns fell silent at the end of the First World War, 100 years ago.

On Saturday, November 8, from 6pm to 9pm people are invited to commemorate and remember those who gave their lives at the hall.

Large poppies will also be displayed on the front lawn and a remembrance performance by Shuttleworth College pupils will also take place.

Lancashire County Cllr Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "The event is intended to symbolise the light of hope that emerged from the darkness of war.

"It is fitting that local schools, and especially Shuttleworth College, have been involved in this commemoration. We must never forget what happened, and engaging with young people is so important in being able to achieve this."
