THE victim of a vicious street attack has died after medics turned off his life support.

Police have confirmed they are now treating the fatal attack on Slovakian Marek Krivak as murder.

A court heard on Monday that doctors were keeping the 32-year-old alive on life support while his brother flew over from Slovakia to see him.

A post mortem gave the cause of death as head injuries.

Drew Wilkinson, 18, of Straight Mile Court, Burnley had earlier been charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, a knuckle duster.

Blackburn magistrates heard that he would most likely be charged with murder in due course.

The attack took place in Hargreaves Street in Burnley on Saturday.

Two other men, aged 25 and 19, who were arrested on suspicion of assault, were released without charge.

A police spokesman said: "A murder investigation is underway after a man died following an assault in Burnley.

"Police were called around 7.05am on Saturday October 27 to reports of an assault on Hargreaves Street.

"Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was found on the floor with head injuries. Police officers treated Mr Krivak until paramedics arrived. 

"Mr Krivak was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment but sadly died from his injuries yesterday.

"Our thoughts are with Mr Krivak's family at this sad time."
