A DECISION on controversial plans for 110 new homes in Clitheroe could be put in the hands of a council boss.

The application to build on land at Henthorn Road is due to be discussed by Ribble Valley Council's planning and development committee later this week.

A recommendation will go before the committee suggesting that the application be delegated to the director of economic development and planning, Nicola Hopkins, for approval.

Clitheroe Town Council object to the application claiming it is outside the settlement boundary and there would be traffic issues if the development went ahead.

But the report states: "The application site is considered to be sustainable location, adjoining the Draft Settlement Boundary of Clitheroe, and the proposal will contribute towards the supply of housing within the borough, and in particular contribute towards the provision of over 55s accommodation and affordable housing."

The council's highways department raised no objections about the location of the proposed development subject to a financial contribution of £200,000 (£40,000 per year for five years) in respect of sustaining and promoting local public transport in the area.

Lancashire County Council's education department has requested the applicant should provide a contribution towards the provision of 19 primary and nine secondary school places at a total cost of £513,000 to be secured by way of a legal agreement.
