REPAIRS are planned at Clitheroe Castle Museum.

A planning application has been lodged to Ribble Valley Council proposing to undertake work to replace a window which has been badly damaged.

The museum, located in the grade II listed former Steward's House in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle, dates back to the 18th century.

A heritage statement submitted as part of the application reads: "Four small steel casement windows that form one window opening are beyond repair.

"One mullion is also damaged due to the dilapidated state of the steel casement windows.

"It is proposed to carefully remove the steel casements and pin the mullion in situ.

"As the casement windows are non-opening, it is proposed that the new steel casements are electroplated and powder coated.

"The window in question is located between the ground floor and first floor on a staircase leading from the steward's gallery to the museum office.

"The window is visible from the park grounds to the rear of the museum. The staircase area is not accessible to the general public."
