MORE than 200 children from a partially-closed secondary school will be bussed to a neighbouring town for their education from tomorrow morning.

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 at Oswaldtwistle's Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School will go to class in Burnley following the decision to shut two blocks because of the discovery of structural faults last week.

The 11 to 13-year-olds will be taught at Hameldon Community College on Coal Clough Lane in self-contained area by the normal teachers to their existing timetable.

Hameldon College has spare capacity as it undergoes a phased closure before shutting for good next year.

Only year 11 children taking their GCSE's this summer are still being taught at Rhyddings while Lancashire County Council looks at finding alternative accommodation for the remaining children.

Special buses will take 222 pupils from Oswaldtwistle to Burnley at 8.45am with a return journey 2.30pm. School lunches will be available.

The closure of the two blocks at Rhyddings is to allow the frames of the two four-storey blocks to be strengthened.

County education boss Cllr Susie Charles said: "This is a practical solution."
