ALL priority routes in East Lancashire will be gritted this evening.

Lancashire County Council announced the decision today, following weather predictions of ice and temperatures to reach -0.7 tonight.

According to the county council website, priority roads include non-trunk motorways and A-roads.

It includes B-roads which are routes in and out of towns, roads that lead to hospitals, emergency service stations, main employment centres and important public transport routes.

This also applies to single routes in and out of villages.

A county council spokesman said: "Priority routes only cover a third of the highway network and ice patches can develop on treated surfaces caused by water run-off from fields or other sources.

"Ice is most likely on untreated surfaces."

Members of Blackburn with Darwen Council's roads team were out on the borough's roads last night and would continue over the weekend as temperatures drop below zero.
