HISTORIC menswear retailer Greenwoods looks set to be the latest high street casualty in Blackburn town centre.

Staff at The Mall's branch have been told that the store there will be closing at the end of next month.

Last year the chain, which dates back to 1860, was bought out of administration by Versatile Bradford-based International Trading Ltd.

Twenty-two sites were identified for closure initially but Blackburn was identified as one of the locations to be saved.

But a closing-down sale was announced earlier this week and the last day of trading is understood to be November 28.

Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for regeneration, said: "The high street is changing, with a number of stores opening and closing.

"In future years it will look quite different, with more leisure opportunities than at present."

The retailer also had a GW by Greenwood branch in Burnley,in St James Street, which was also closed some time ago.

Recently the outfit has also closed down shops in Bradford and Keighley.

Greenwoods head office was unavailable for comment as the Lancashire Telegraph went to press.
