LIBERAL Democrat Lord Tony Greaves condemned repair work on a back-street as 'shoddy'.

The councillor for Waterside ward has accused Lancashire County Council of doing a 'botched up job' of mending the alley between Phillips Lane and Ridehalgh Street off Burnley Road in Colne.

Lord Greaves said: “This is a back street which is adopted. It is therefore the job of Lancashire County Council to keep it in a good state of repair. We reported this back street as the worst adopted street in Pendle. After this botched up job, it is no better.”

"It is a shoddy piece of work, a few dollops of tarmac from the back of a truck."

A county council spokesman said: "We are always working to ensure all roads are safe and serviceable, and where necessary carry out the type of repairs recently done here.

"We replace stone flags and setts with similar materials in conservation areas but cannot do this everywhere."
