A DAUGHTER who was trying to raise money for driving lessons to help support her mother has been offered a free driving course - thanks to a generous instructor.

Paiton Harrison has been caring for her mum, Saira Harrison, 49, who has suffered with severe mobility issues after battling with ovarian cancer, arthritis in her back and sciatica pain, since she was six years old.

The 18-year-old, from Accrington, previously spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph to help raise £1,200 so she could buy lessons, pass her test and be able to take her mum to hospital appointments in her mobility car.

However Paul Middleton, of Pass with Pads driving school in Rochdale, got in touch with the Accrington Academy Sixth Form student and offered her 30 one-hour lessons and a practical test free of charge.

Paiton said she could never had imagined someone being so generous and was “over the moon” when he got in touch.

She said: “Passing my test will mean that my mum won’t suffer with pain from driving to and from various places.

“I will be able to drive her to and from her hospital appointments, especially when she is told not to drive.

“I will also feel better as I can drive myself to the shops to do food shopping if my mum can’t get out of the house, and my knees won’t be suffering as much from walking everywhere.

“Overall both my mum and I are so grateful for the donations people made that have gone towards my provisional license and theory test, and of course Paul who very kindly offered me a full course without cost.

“Fingers crossed I’ll be ready for my test soon so that I can start driving and make both mine and mum’s lives so much easier.”

Paiton’s childhood and teenage life has involved full care of her mother, including getting dressed, washing, cleaning and food shopping.

She said: “I’m finding my lessons really fun, I’m enjoying driving and haven’t struggled on anything too much.

“Paul is a great instructor and helps me to improve anything I do struggle with, even if it takes a few times of going over.

“I’m eager to work hard towards my test to hopefully pass as soon as possible.”

Mr Middleton, who has been a driving instructor for four years, said he saw Paiton’s appeal in the Lancashire Telegraph and had to help.

He said: “I was in a position where I could help and I wanted to take that opportunity.

“I have done charitable work in the past and I always want to help where I can.

“It’s been amazing to hear from Paiton and her mum how much this has helped them both.

“Paiton is doing well with her lessons and we are working on getting her driving confidence up before she takes her test.”
