Remembrance Day artwork created by school children has been displayed in shop windows.

Pupils from St Andrew's Primary School in Oswaldtwistle have had their poppies put in pride of place in different shops on Union Road.

Owner of Garlands Florists, Rachel McClure, who offered to display the artwork alongside her own Remembrance Day window display, said: "When St.Andrew's posted on their Facebook page that the children were designing Remembrance artwork, we simply had to offer them space to display it in our own Remembrance window.

"The artwork is so poignant and shows just how well the children have grasped the whole reason behind the November 11 Remembrance Day."

Children from the Oswaldtwistle school have been learning all about the First and Second World Wars, and as part of their art lessons they have been designing their own tributes for Remembrance Day.

They used a variety of mediums to design the poppies, from tissue paper to plastic, including some poppies made from Coke bottles.

Headteacher at St Andrew's, Mrs Tina Wilkinson, said: "We always make some kind of artwork for Remembrance Day and usually take them to the local cenotaph and display them there, but this year a lot of shops on Union Road have said they'd be interested in displaying them to stop them getting destroyed in bad weather.

"Rachel from Garlands got in touch and there's now a big display in the Florist window.

"Lots of parents and grandparents have already noticed the displays and we've had lots of comments from parents on Facebook saying how special they look."

The artwork will be on display in a number of shops on Union Road until after Remembrance Sunday.
