BLACKBURN residents have until Wednesday next week to give socks and other clothing items to the Yorkshire Building Society's appeal to help the homeless.

They can donate the items or cash at the firm's on King William Street. in the town until October 31.

The society is running a month-long 'Socktober' appeal for its charity partnership with End Youth Homelessness.

Donations of new pairs of socks, toiletries, interview clothes and other items such as woolly hats, gloves, scarves, can be made.

An estimated 86,000 young people in the UK are homeless including 98 in Blackburn with Darwen who required support from the borough council in 2016/17.

Cash donations can also be made at www.justgiving.com/socktober18 or by simply texting SOCT70 followed by amounts such as £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.

Sasha Pauley, Charity Partnership Manager for Yorkshire Building Society, said: “Thanks to donations we receive in Blackburn for our partnership with End Youth Homelessness we are able to support homeless young people into their own rented homes and break down the barriers that homeless young people face.”

Through the course of the Society’s three-year partnership with EYH it aims to raise £750,000.
