Jamie Vermiglio revealed he didn’t need to say too much to his players at half time as they launched a second half comeback to book their spot in the FA first round.

Chorley rallied from 2-0 down at half-time to beat National League side Barrow 3-2 and put their name in the hat for tonight’s first round draw.

Goals from Matthew Challoner, Louis Almond and Marcus Carver helped the Magpies in their comeback quest, with boss Vermiglio pleased with the character on show.

Chorley, leaders of the National League North, are yet to be beaten in any competition this season and showed why with their second half display at Victory Park.

“It was brilliant,” said Vermiglio.

“I don’t think we deserved to go in two goals down. Barrow are a good side, we gave them a lot of respect but I thought we more than matched them.

“We had a decision to make, do we go toe-to-toe with them, or do we sit off and them pop it about?

“We decided to go toe-to-toe and I thought in all honesty we would have unlucky to go in one goal down, nevermind two.

“They got in behind us a couple of times and we were a bit naïve on some occasions with the ball and they were dangerous on the immediate turnover of possession and were counter-attacking us.

“At half-time I didn’t need to say that much, we all chipped in, but tactically we didn’t need to change that much. We just needed to make sure that when we got those opportunities we put them away.

“When you are 2-0 down at half-time the next goal is always crucial, they will have been saying the same things at half-time.

“But when we got that goal back, the momentum is with us and we took the game to them. There was some fantastic performances right the way through the team.

“There was a great atmosphere and a great game of football, I think both sides tried to play.

“Our fitness levels throughout were outstanding.”
