A WATER leak lasting more than 12 hours in Accrington was fixed.

Water pressure in Richmond Road was reduced after a leak was found at around 12.30am today.

United Utilities (UU) sent engineers to the site and extra water was pumped into the system from mobile vans to help maintain a water supply to homes and businesses.

The repair was fixed at around 12.45pm.

A UU spokesman said: "The repair to the leaking water main on Richmond Road is now complete.

"However as this burst has affected a large area it may take a while for water pressure to return to normal.

"Our engineers are working hard to charge the mains.

"This meant the water pressure was being built up slowly within the pipework to help prevent further disruption.

"Thank you for your continued patience while we work to restore your supplies."
