SEAN McConville admitted it was nice to put one over on his former Stanley teammate Aaron Chapman in netting Saturday's winner at Peterborough.

The Reds wideman scored the only goal of the game at London Road to give Stanley the points. firing home from close range past his friend Chapman who left East Lancashire for Posh in the summer.

The result lifted John Coleman's side into fourth place ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Luton Town and McConville was pleased with the performance, and the bragging rights over his mate.

"I was having a bit of banter with Chappy the night before, telling him I would score and he was saying I wouldn't but he took it in great spirit," said McConville.

"He is a great lad. He did terrific for us last year, he is a good friend, he was great for the dressing room and he is a good keeper as well. I thought he had a really good game on Saturday, there was not much he could do for the goal but anything else he had to do he did well so it was nice to see him and nice to get one over on him."

The strike was McConville's sixth of an already productive season but the 29-year-old is more concerned with Stanley maintaining their fine form and consolidating a spot in the top six, something reinforced by the three points over big-spending Peterborough who are second in the standings.

"It was nice to get a goal but most importantly the win," he added. "It keeps the momentum going, we are in good form at the minute.

"To go to a team who have spent a bit of money, have good players and have been flying, to put the performance on that we did and win the game I thought comfortably in the end is a testament to the lads' character and how we have been playing this season as a group.

"We have a really tough game at Luton and then another tough game on Saturday (at home to leaders Portsmouth). They come around quickly but we go to Luton confident after the win on Saturday."
