PLANNED roadworks due to start in Gorse Street, Blackburn, today have been postponed.

Drainage works were due to have closed the highway for a week.

Due to the non-availability of Cadent Gas to undertake their part of the works, the closure of Gorse Street will not be put in place as planned and an alternative date will be determined in due course.

The road closure is part of major works to complete the much-delayed Furthergate link road scheme in Blackburn.

The construction of the link road, bypassing Burnley Road, was halted in 2016 because of a row between the council and Tesco over a small piece of land off Gorse Street on the car park belonging to the chain’s Hill Street store.

Construction work on the the final 600-yard ‘missing’ section of the £4.8million link road is now under way for completion in March.
