A COUNCIL has announced it now has more cash available to adapt the homes of people with disabilities.

Handicapped Hyndburn residents are being urged to apply for disabled facilities grants of up to £30,000 to alter their properties to make it easier to get into and move around the premises.

They can be used to pay for adaptations such as ramps for wheelchairs, stairlifts, level access showers and specialist baths, kitchen alterations and heating improvements.

Cllr Clare Cleary, Hyndburn council’s housing boss, said: “We have more funding available now than ever before for disabled facilities grants and we want to help as many people as possible.

“We know that changes in the home make a huge difference to the quality of life of people living with disabilities.

“We offer quick and informal preliminary financial assessments to give people who are thinking about applying a good idea about the likelihood of qualifying for a grant without having to disclose full details of their finances.

“Last year we helped 94 households with adaptations and alterations to their homes”
