A 4.5-MILE walk called 'on the trail of father of time' has been launched in memory of a 17th century astronomer.
The walk is in memory ofSir Jonas Moore, born in Higham in 1617, he was a mathematician, map maker and royal courtier and became known as the father of time for his part in establishing the Royal Observatory in London and Greenwich mean time.
The trail was researched and developed by walking guide leader Norman Mitchell, with support from Pendle Council, in a bid to give Pendle’s radical thinker his rightful place in history.
It explores a hidden valley dotted with Elizabethan manor houses and evidence of the past going back to medieval times and earlier.
The route passes Jonas Moore’s birthplace and Dean Farm which was built by Jonas Moore's grandfather in 1574, the year Henry VIII died.
