MP Kate Hollern was among the guests at a special Islamiyah Girls’ High School (IGHS) celebration evening.

The school based in Blackburn was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED this year. 

Kate Hollern was joined by Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council Mohammed Khan and members of the governing body at a dinner held at Waheed’s Buffet and Banqueting Hall. Also in attendance were pupils and staff from the school.

The school was graded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and the reporting Inspector Neil Dixon said that ‘standards and results are well above the national average, despite a large proportion of the pupils coming from disadvantaged background’. 

Some key findings at the school mentioned how it is exceptionally successful in achieving its aim of ‘Offering a broad and balanced curriculum alongside a positive understanding of Islam, to equip every pupil with skills to be a successful learner, confident individual and responsible British citizen.’

Leaders are ‘highly ambitious for the school and its pupils and pupils’ attainment was outstanding’. 

Teachers have ‘outstanding subject knowledge and make excellent use of assessment information to make sure that work is very well matched’.
The report added that ‘behaviour was exemplary and pupils are extremely well mannered, thoughtful and articulate’. 

School governors, SLT and staff were delighted this year to have 88% of the those sitting exams scoring 9-4 in all subjects exceeding the national figures significantly.

Eighty-four percent of pupils achieved 9-4 in Maths and English.
At the school 9-7 grades (A*-A across all subjects) were secured by 16.3% of students with outstanding results by Hameedah Bham (3A*, 1A, 5-9’s & 2-8’s), Maariya Sidat and Unaysa Mala( 2A*, 2A, 4-9’s & 3-8’s) and Mahnoor Syed (2A*, 2A, 4-9’s & 3-8’s).

Head Teacher Mr Yusuf Seedat also received AMS Inter Faith Education Lifetime achievement award.

Mr Seedat said “The positivity at the school is all reflected in the report. 
“I am extremely pleased of all the hard work of all teachers, office, support staff and governors who make this happen has been rewarded. 

“We want to make our pupils good citizens and this report shows we are succeeding in our objectives.”
