AN investigation has been launched after a man collapsed and died at his home.

Officers were called to Byron Close in Oswaldtwistle at 9.20am today to reports the 65-year-old had been found dead.

Police said the man had been involved in a crash on Sunday, when the white Toyota Yaris he was driving collided with a black Vauxhall Astra Estate at the entrance of Tesco Express off Union Road.

Police and the North West Ambulance Service attended and the man was treated at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall did not suffer any serious injuries, police said.

Police said the Toyota driver was found dead at his home in Byron Close this morning and his family have been notified.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner.

A resident from nearby Tennyson Avenue said: "I could see the police from my road, as it overlooks Byron Close.

"It's so sad to hear a man has died, I feel for his family."

Road closures had been put in place near to the Tesco Express off Union Road while police carried out their investigation.

The closures have since been lifted.

A Union Street resident said: "There was police tape at the entrance of the Tesco Express yesterday.

"There was a police car blocking off traffic from the Harvey Street junction and the other direction.

"I didn't realise a man had been found dead this morning, it's really sad."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 9:20am this morning after a man had sadly been found deceased inside a house on Byron Close, Oswaldtwistle.

"At approximately 9:50am yesterday a white Toyota Yaris being driven by a 65-year-old male from Oswaldtwistle was involved in a collision with a black Vauxhall Astra Estate at Union Road, Oswaldtwistle at the entrance to the Tesco Express.

"Police and NWAS attended the scene and the 65-year-old man was treated at the scene.

"The drive of the Vauxhall was uninjured.

"Sadly the 65-year-old man was found dead at his home in Byron Close this morning.

"His family have been notified.

"An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the man’s death.

"The death isn’t being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to HM Coroner."
