DARWEN'S MP has been criticised for double standards by one of the town's Labour councillors.
Conservative Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry had a letter published in the Lancashire Telegraph on Friday praising the recent 'construction boom' in the North-West.
He said: "'It's wonderful to see how the Northern Powerhouse is driving investment in the North West and helping grow the construction industry to the tune of over £600million.
"Anyone visiting the North-West can see the huge number of construction projects under way. This construction boom is helping build new homes, new infrastructure and a stronger economy in the region."
Darwen West ward's Cllr Dave Smith, also chairman of the Borough Planning Committee, has accused The MP of 'hypocrisy'.
He said: "Mr Berry has actively opposed construction, investment, the building of new homes and infrastructure in his own constituency. Here in Darwen, for example, he opposed an infrastructure and housing project on a large brownfield site and construction schemes on long standing allocated housing sites."
