THE brother of former Clarets striker Jay Rodriguez has gone back to his roots to launch his new clothing line.

Joe Rodriguez, younger sibling of the ex-Burnley marksman, is behind Rzar Apparel, which gives a nod to his Spanish heritage.

And he's even managed to enlist the West Brom forward for a spot of modelling, to get the venture off the ground.

Fledgling fashionista Joe, who is still based in Burnley, sought inspiration from a trip to La Coruna, from where his grandparents hail.

He was watching Jay play in a friendly for the Baggies against La Liga side Deportivo when he became caught up in their passion for food, family and football.

Joe said: "The atmosphere at the Riazor Stadium is something everyone should experience. Maybe it’s the sun, the wine but in all honesty I think it's the fans.

"European clubs are influenced massively by their fans. They are involved in every aspect of the club. The blues are no different and their ultras welcomed us with open arms.

"We were invited into their local bar, shown their memorabilia and unique fashion. The love they had for their club was plain to see. It is an experience I will never forget."

On his return, he got together with friends to start a new clothing label, which morphed into Rzar Apparel.

He added: "Fashion is important to me as any other twentysomething. I knew that I could add an important addition to the clothing market.

"What the team couldn't decide on was the name of the company and the brand. Suddenly, whilst reminiscing in our local Italian restaurant about our trip to La Coruna we started to talk about the Riazor Stadium.

"Unfortunately, in our Lancastrian tones, the ground sounds more like “Rzar.” It was a lightbulb moment.

"Right then and there, we had our name. Our own tribute to our Spanish roots."

The Rzar name now adorns a range of t-shirts, caps and hoodies.

He is a partner in the business with Andrew Matthews and they already have their own social media platforms up and running.
