THE family of a five-year-old boy who has a rare form of cancer have revealed the heartbreaking news that he has been given weeks to live.

Charlie Procter, from Accrington, has been fighting hepatoblastoma since 2016.

Friends and family have been working tirelessly to raise money to get him to the USA for life-saving treatment.

Charlie's mum Amber Schofield and dad Ben were told the news before they went on holiday to Greece last month, and it was on their return this week that the family decided to tell thousands of Charlie’s followers and supporters the news.

Ms Schofield said: “This last week has been spent telling family and friends and letting them having their time with Charlie.

“His cancer is growing faster than we expected in both his liver and lungs.

“We knew if money wasn’t raised that this would be his last Christmas. We knew he would have his last-ever birthday in April.

“But within two minutes of speaking to Charlie’s doctor our world crumbled.

“How can a parent, who’s already planning the last few months of their child’s life, feel any worse? It's by hearing the words, ‘He has four to six weeks of life left’ coming out of the doctor's mouth.”

Ms Schofield said: “This means Charlie has two weeks left to breath, 14 days to see the world, 336 hours to spend with his little sister. His little sister that he won’t get to see grow.”

But despite the heartbreaking news, Ms Schofield said the hardest thing was knowing there was a doctor in America who is willing to treat Charlie, but who can’t do so due to the financial barrier.

She said: “He is confused as to why Charlie isn’t already cancer-free - he’s treated cases worse than Charlie’s, and those people are now living normal lives.”

But Charlie’s family still have hope that they can get their little boy the life-saving treatment that he needs before his time is up.

Ms Schofield said: “We need people to know, I’m begging now more than ever. Please help us, please donate and share out story.”

The family are prepared to get on a flight to the US as soon as they know they have enough money in the bank to pay for his treatment.

Ms Scofield added: “I know everybody wants to see him live a long life just as much as we do and with everyone’s amazing support, we feel hope again.”
