THE people of Bacup are being invited to sponsor a poppy for this year's Remembrance Day celebrations.
The Sponsor a Poppy initiative has been organised by Bacup Rotary Club who want to acknowledge the men of Bacup who lost their lives during WW1.
Each sponsored poppy will be attached to lamp posts in the town in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday.
Individuals, families, groups and businesses can sponsor a poppy for £10, with the proceeds going to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Already, several poppies have been cropping up on lamp posts across the town and many have the names of local soldiers on them.
One Facebook user posting in the Bacup Past & Present group commented: "This is a brill idea and I'm trying to read each one."

Remembrance Day is on Sunday November 11 and this year marks 100 years since the end of World War One.
