TWO Blackburn parents had hit out at the council after the gable end was blown off their house in January 1980.

Alfred Wild, 36, and his wife Sandra, 28, claimed damp conditions in their council home had caused their eldest son, five-year-old Jason, to have a convulsion.

The couple were also worried about their three-year-old son Lee, who had only one kidney. Mrs Wild said: “We have been worried about the children’s health.

“If Lee has any trouble with his remaining kidney, there is little that can be done for him. We fear for his life.

“I contacted the council as soon as the gable end was blown off by the high winds just before Christmas, but I was told there was no hope of anything being done until after the holiday.

“I explained about the children’s health, but we were just ignored. They did not want to know.” Jason had received hospital treatment for his convulsion following a cold caused by the damp.

Mrs Wild added: “In a way we are relieved it was Jason who suffered and not Lee who is still recovering from his kidney operation last July.”

A spokesman for Blackburn Council, said: “The houses in Worcester Road were improved last year under contract, Instead of taking her complaint straight to the contractor Mrs Wild came through the council so it has taken a long time.”
