EMERGENCY services are warning motorists to avoid Mill Hill Lane in Hapton, Burnley as they clear-up hazardous waste which was dumped in the area earlier today.

Fire engines, specialist vehicles and crews from Burnley are currently at the scene where eight drums containing various waste materials, including paint thinners, were dumped.

Some of the contents inside the 45-gallon drums has spilled out into the area, a spokesman has concerned.

He said: "Firefighters, the Environment Agency and local authority personnel are currently involved in the clean-up.

"There is no off-site hazard, but Mill Hill Lane is closed to traffic meanwhile and because of possible traffic congestion, avoiding the vicinity of the incident is advisable."
