In a full council meeting last week, Councillor Maureen Bateson, executive member for children, young people and education, told councillors how pupils in Blackburn with Darwen primary schools are doing better than the national average.
She explained how primary students were at expected levels or above in Reading, Writing and Maths and discussed recently released figures which showed a marked rise in reading performance among the region's primary schools by as much as seven percent.
In the same meeting, Cllr Bateson also spoke of the success of the borough's secondary schools in terms of this years' GCSE results.
She said very early indications showed a performance in line with the national average in terms of overall attainment, with students believed to be doing particularly well in English, with many achieving strong or standard passes.
