DIABETES sufferers in East Lancashire will now be assured of consistent access to the latest insulin pumps and glucose monitoring devices.
New policy guidelines mean all appropriate patients will soon be able to receive the devices on prescription.
They have been adopted by the Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group and its East Lancashire counterpart which covers Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, the Ribble Valley, and Rossendale.
Diabetes specialists are expected to start prescribing glucose monitors later this month. Insulin pumps will also be supplied to more patients.
Andy Curran, Executive Medical Director for Healthier Lancashire, said: "This is good news for insulin-dependent diabetics and will ensure these devices are made available to those who need them most."
