Brave Zahra Royle Mohammed has been praised by her teachers after she saved the life of a woman who collapsed in a car park.

The 17-year-old Blackburn College student resuscitated the lady by administering CPR while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

She has now been presented with a certificate of thanks from college leaders for her swift actions and ability to take control of the situation.

Zahra said: "I’ve been attending first aid classes for about a year but haven’t had to administer any other than for minor cuts.

"I didn’t really have chance to think about what was happening, my priority was to get involved and help."

"When the lady started breathing again it was amazing and then the ambulance soon arrived."

Assistant Principal at Blackburn College, Andrew Pickles, said: "We’re incredibly impressed and proud that Zahra was able to respond so quickly and her actions show the importance of studying First Aid."

Zahra is now encouraging others to attend First Aid courses.

She added: "Accidents can happen anywhere and I’m really grateful for the training I’ve received to give me the skills and confidence to perform CPR.

"I hope this will encourage others to search out First Aid groups and training."
