NEWGROUND is calling for the people of Burnley to go green this World Mental Health Day.
On Wednesday October 10, the social enterprise is inviting Burnley residents to its Offshoots Permaculture Project, a community garden based in Towneley Park, to experience the positive impact gardening and green spaces has on health and wellbeing.
Business Development Manager, Kasira Ahmed said: "As we approach the time of putting the clocks back, gardening may seem like a pursuit which conflicts with the cold weather and dark nights but it can actually combat the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
"Even on a cloudy day the light outside is 20 times brighter than indoor lighting and research has shown that just touching soil can help increase serotonin levels and improve mood."
