A COMBINATION of generous donations, fundraising efforts and well-earned grants has seen an animal sanctuary rake in a massive £108,000 over the past month.

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, Ramsbottom, said they were 'over the moon' to announce they had been awarded a grant of £100,000 from Support Adoption for Pets, a registered charity which supports pet rehoming organisations across the country.

Bleakholt's open day at the end of September also saw them raise over £8000.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Our current dog runs need a lot of renovation and the grant has given us the go-ahead for new exercise areas which will incorporate a fabulous dog enrichment area and sensory gardens.

"This is a long awaited project and finally we can make it happen.

"It will make a huge difference to the lives of the dogs in our care and opens up huge opportunities for their rehabilitation.

"The cheque was presented to us at our Open Day which just made the whole day extra special and exciting."

Earlier in the summer the charity also announced they had begun construction on a new kennel block, which is expected to be completed by the end of November.
