PARENTS and families have been asked to remain vigilant by headteachers after a naked man approached a teenage girl.

The 15-year-old saw the man, believed to be in his 30s or 40, walking towards her on Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle, at 8.20am on Wednesday.

Letters were sent to parents from Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School in the town warning them to ensure their children avoided the area.

Xavier Bowers, head of Mount Carmel RC High School, Accrington, said: “The last thing we want to do is alarm families but clearly this incident on Wednesday is a concern.

“A lot of our families live in that area of Oswaldtwistle and walk to and from school from that area.

“We need to strike a balance. I have spoken to the headteacher of Rhyddings, and with the police we are all working together.”

This latest incident comes after a 14-year-old girl from Rhyddings was touched on the bottom by a man in Town Bent Lane, Oswaldtwistle, last Thursday morning.

The attacker was described as white, short and wearing a black hat and black clothing.

Police are looking into the possibility the two incidents are linked.

A police spokesman said: “The naked man was seen near a car park in Harvey Street. He proceeded to walk towards the girl before she ran off.”

Several parents took to social media claiming Rhyddings School should have sent out text alerts before school had finished on Wednesday, so children who usually walked home could be collected.

Letters have been sent to parents from the school’s head, Andrew Williams, asking parents to remain vigilant after school hours.

Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School was unavailable for comment.
