A CYCLIST suffered leg and arm injuries after being knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run incident in Nelson.

The incident took place on Scotland Road outside Dewhurst Decorators Supplies after 1am this morning and he was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

An eyewitness said: "There was a man on the floor for about half-an-hour.

"Police and ambulances were on the scene very quickly.

"He had to be stretchered away after being made secure and stabilised by ambulance crew and paramedics.  "The speeding cars got away.

"The man was severely hurt and was in a lot of pain.  "Police were then examining a bike left in the road about 20-30ft from the injured man after he was taken away.  "I believe there were witnesses at the scene as they were helping the injured and police were taking their details."  A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian at 1.05am.

"The patient was a man in his mid-40s and he was taken to hospital with leg and arm injuries."

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We were called to Scotland Road, Nelson, shortly before 1.10am to reports of a collision between a white Audi car and a cyclist.

"The driver of the Audi failed to stop at the scene.

"The cyclist, who had been coming out of Essex Street and going towards Nelson town centre, was taken to hospital with arm injuries.

"No arrests has been made and we are trying to trace the identity of the Audi.

"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 51 of October 3, 2018.”
