A WOMAN caught stealing a trolley load of goods from Tesco claimed she didn't have enough to feed her children.

Blackburn magistrates were told by prosecutor Alex Mann, the claim would have been more convincing if the trolley hadn't contained two cases of wine and a quantity of make-up.

, 38, of Conway Grove, Burnley, pleaded guilty to theft of products worth £194 from Tesco.

She was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.

The offence put Kerr in breach of a suspended prison sentence.

The breach was marked by extending the period of suspension by six months.

Mark Williams, defending, said his client had made great strides in the last 10 months.

"Having worked with Inspire she is now in a position where she has no illegal drug habit or any prescribed drug addiction," said Mr Williams.

He said Kerr's benefits had been stopped for a month and she was left without money.

"She went shoplifting but it is clear she was out of practice, not having done it for so long," said Mr Williams.
