CAN you remember the first time you sat down in front of a computer?

Staring into a rather clunky monitor with a small screen with barely or no colour at all with a whole range of new possibilities right in front of you.

Computers massively changed our lives from the way we work to the way we learn in school.

They first entered classrooms in East Lancashire in the 1980s and children were given the opportunity to try different learning techniques using very advanced for its day - and expensive- pieces of computer equipment.

Businesses and companies could record transactions and data electronically and the iconic sound of type writers slowly began to drift away from offices - including the Lancashire Telegraph newsroom.

These photos show the early days of when computers became part of our lives in East Lancashire.

Pupils could use computers to design patterns for work, complete complex calculations at the press of a button and much more.

The increasing momentum of technology has seen the traditional black board become a thing of the past, with all classrooms fitted with interactive whiteboards, computers and electronic tablets.

It's interesting to think what will be in classrooms and offices in the next 30 years, we may only be able to look at computers as we know them today in museums.
