THE White Swan pub in Fence has been awarded a Michelin Star - and Northcote has retained its star.

The establishment was awarded the accolade at tonight's Michelin Guide announcement event.

In a tweet, The Michelin Guide said: "A Michelin Star for lovely village pub The White Swan where chef Tom Parker lets his wonderful ingredients shine."

The pub's chef, Tom Parker, appeared on BBC Two's Great British Menu competition last year.

The pub was named in Britian's top 50 gastro pubs in 2017.

Top food critic Jay Rayner said the pub was performing 'miracles' after a surprise visit to the pub for a national newspaper review in 2015.

Eateries are awarded a Michelin Star for their high quality cuisine and can be awarded up to three stars.

The restaurants, hotels and pubs which are given, or retain, their stars are published in the Michelin Guide every year.

Northcote also retained its Michelin Star.

It is the first time head chef Lisa Allen has been officially recognised as the holder after Nigel Haworth stepped down from his chef-patron role late last year to become an ambassador for the restaurant.
