A planning application for four semi-detached houses on an estate in Bacup has worried residents.

Rossendale Council has received the application from a Mr Uzin for the corner of Coniston Way and Pendle Avenue.

If approved, it will see the removal of all trees on the site.

Homeowners in the area are now concerned for their privacy and the future of the land.

A disgruntled Pendle Avenue resident said: "Only 13 properties received letters to let them know about the application.

"They want to fell all the trees on that site which have been there for years."

The resident said they had not come across anyone in the area who would support the application.

They said: "Some residents that I've spoken to are dejected as they've not been made aware that the application has been put in.

"It's a quiet residential area that doesn't need more housing.

"I know there's been a few objections made so far to the council and more will be made in the next few weeks."

The application states that the proposed site, which slopes northwards, offers little to residents in terms of amenity space and because of the slope is not suitable for recreational sports or dog walkers.

A tree preservation order was made in 1952 to protect the trees on the site.

Another Pendle Avenue resident said: "I live in one of the houses that is most likely to be affected by this.

"If it goes ahead, it will mean that I will have four houses looking into my property; already I've lost the privacy at the back of my house and now I will lose it at the front.

"I am very concerned about this and about the trees, which have a tree preservation order on them, and I will be objecting about the application."

If enough objections are made, the application may be put before a Planning Committee.

Neil Birtles from Rossendale Council said: "The application has not yet been approved and there is still time for residents to support or object the application."

Mr Uzin's agent, Mr Azam, of Northedge Architecture, has been contacted for a statement.
