A MAN armed himself with a knife during a row with a neighbour over a parking space.

Blackburn Magistrates Court was told how Mahboob Ahmed Tahir brandished the weapon as he threatened to cut the other man up.

Tahir, of Cromwell Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to affray.

The 29-year-old was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £115 surcharge to fund victim services.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Hader Ali was sitting in his front room watching television at 3.30pm when a car parked outside his house.

He went out to speak to the men in the car because they had parked in the same spot the week before.

A row developed during which Tahir went into a nearby house and emerged, bare chested and with a large kitchen knife in his hand.

“At that point Mr Ali feared for his life,” said Mrs Yates.

“A second male who had been in the car came towards him with clenched fists and assaulted Mr Ali.”

Jeremy Frain, defending, said his client had been entitled to park where he did.

“It is a public road but people get very territorial,” said Mr Frain.

“During the verbal row my client heard someone say something about going to get a weapon so he ran to his property and got something himself.”
