VIEWS on future planning policies for extracting minerals and managing waste are sought by Lancashire County Council.

The local authority is responsible for deciding planning applications for minerals and waste sites and the new local plan sets out the priorities and policies.

The current plan will run out in 2012 and an updated version will be put in place until 2032.

County Cllr Michael Green, cabinet member for economic development, environment, and planning, said: "Extraction of minerals for industry and management of waste affects everyone, and the way these things are done in future will have a big impact on people's lives, our landscape, and economy.

"Good planning can help to minimise any conflicts, and ensure that these issues are managed in a way that has a positive impact.

"The local plan sets out the key issues affecting mineral deposits and waste sites in Lancashire so that everyone can see the background against which future planning applications will be decided."

The consultation will close on Wednesday, November 28, anyone interested in putting their comments forward can search 'current consultations' on the county council's website.
