THE owner of a horse is calling for help from members of the public after a suspected dog attack.

Charles Price could not believe it when he got a call from his sister to say the 11-year-old pure bred Trotter horse called Golden Boy had bad cuts to four legs.

The 32-year-old from Accrington, is trying to find the dog and its owner after the incident which took place at 3.10pm on September 22.

He said: “We have our horse in the field behind Charter Street in a field near Robert Nicholas Factory and the Black path.

“I was in Blackburn when my sister said a dog was attacking the horse.

“There was a man who was the dogs owner trying to get the dog off but he just ran off after and did not see if the horse was alright.

“It was a big muscled dog like a pitbull and it had cut the legs of the horse.

“If the horse was a racing horse it would have had to have been put down but luckily it is a stud.

“I have had it for years and I had it brought over from Australia as its dad was a champion race-horse.

“We want anyone who saw it to get in touch with us.”

Mr Price added: “It is a real mess and for the owner to go away is wrong.

“The dog should be destroyed if it attacked our horse like we have been told.

“I have four-year-old and seven-year-old boys and they love the horses and come every day to see them but it is good they were not around .

“This dog is not fit to be off the lead and if it does this to a horse then it could do it to kids too.

His sister Valene Price said: “There were two women with a girl who saw it and one of the ladies told us they reported it to the police but we have not heard anything and we want them to get in contact.

“We were too shocked about what happened and forget to get their names.”

The horse had to be sedated to have his treatment with included jabs of penicillin.

For Charles it was history repeating itself and now he is calling on dogs to be kept on leads.

He said: “Two years ago we had a Shetland pony on Hayes Road near the fish shop and then two dogs killed it and they were pitbulls.

“I have just got a big vet bill now to pay and nobody seems to care.”Why should this dog be loose if this is what it can do.

“It needs to have a muzzle on because when it locks its jaw you cannot get it off. It is not like it is a terrier where you may be able to get it.”

The dog’s owner was wearing a hood and black jeans and the dog was a dark brown or black colour. If you know anything ring 07867426034.
