A MAN who took the train for a shoplifting trip to Clitheroe was caught in the act.

Blackburn magistrates heard Paul Hargreaves was wearing two pairs of trousers when he was arrested which he said was so the stolen items would fall between them and be harder to find.

Hargreaves, 33, of Stansfeld Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft of razor blades worth £90 from Christopher Carter, obstructing a police officer and theft of Lynx deodorant worth £35 from Tesco, Clitheroe. He was made subject for a curfew between 7pm and 7am for three months and ordered to pay £35 compensation.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Hargreaves activated the alarm as he left the store and was detained outside.

"When he was searched 12 packs of razors were removed from his trousers," said Mrs Yates.

Hargreaves initially gave a false name to police before giving his correct details. He was identified from CCTV footage committing the offence at Tesco four days earlier.
