Dementia sufferers and their family and friends can enjoy a night of songs to evoke musical memories.

Organised by Dementia Friendly Rossendale, the One Day In Your Life concert will feature entertainment from Ross Valley Sounds, Haslingden High School choir, and professional singer Kyle Harrison.

It is said that people with dementia still remember words and melodies of songs they used to sing or were taught as children. The concert on Saturday 13 October will run from 2pm till 5pm at St Mary's church Rawtenstall.

Co-vice chairs Paula Bond and Sue Hemsley organised the event. Mrs Hemsley said: "If people want to sing at the concert they can sing and if they want to dance, then they can do so. It is very informal.

"We have invited the Mayor Councillor Ann Kenyon and it is a free afternoon for anyone to attend."

A refreshment break will also take place in between performances.

There will also be a representative of the Alzheimer’s Society in attendance to offer informal advice, signposting and guidance for anyone with concerns.
