A WOMAN was assaulted and had her phone stolen by a man.

Police, who have released an appeal today, said the woman was attacked on Galligreaves Way in Blackburn at 1am on Thursday, September 20.

A police spokesman said the victim saw the man sat in the middle of the road and went over to help.

The man asked for the time and the woman took out her phone, as she did that the man snatched it and assaulted her before running away.

The attacker is described as white, around 18-years-old, and roughly 5ft 6inches tall.

He had medium length blond wavy hair with "a chubby face and an Irish accent" and wore a dark tracksuit, police said.
