A TASTE of MasterChef will come to Darwen Market.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is hosting what is hoped to be the first of many Darwen Market Kitchen events on Saturday from 10am until 4pm.

The free event is open to the public and will see chefs and cooks from market stalls and town centre cafés and restaurants joined by special guest, MasterChef finalist Moonira Hinglotwala.

All of the chefs will be giving cookery demonstrations and handing out samples.

Almost every single ingredient will be sourced from Darwen Market and recipe cards will be available on the day detailing where the produce was sourced and allowing the dishes to be recreated at home.

Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for regeneration, said: “The fresh, local produce that is sold on Darwen Market is some of the finest you will come across.

“This is set to be a great event, showcasing not only the produce, but the talent of some of our local cooks and of course our special guest Moonira. Come along to support the event in Darwen Market.”

Moonira reached the MasterChef finals and went on to be named Woman of the Year 2018 at the Fusion Awards.

She said: “I was born and bred in Blackburn and food has always been an integral part of my life.

“As a wife, mother and pharmacist, I like to buy locally and take an interest in where my food comes from.

“The market is a meeting place for friends and family, where food can be eaten as well as produce bought.”

“I am looking forward to coming to Darwen and cooking a dish allowing people to experience my modern take on authentic Indian flavours.

“I am keen to try out the other dishes on offer too,” said Moonira.

Alongside Moonira, Darwen Market’s Julie Ingham, from Tease Your Tastebuds, and Verity Ward, from Rushton’s The Bacon Stall, will be taking centre stage to share one of their favourite recipes.
